Extra Curricular Activities
In ISK we have different extra curricular activities. We have badminton, tennis, hockey, Aikido which is a Japanese self-defence sport and many other sports. All are fun to join.

  Badminton

Badminton attendance has gone down significantly. This is of course not the only sport that this has happened to. (The most famous being taekwondo which started out with almost total attendance of 29 students at the first class then declined to 7 by the second.)Investigations into the phenomena have come up with the following explanations: fluctuating population, heavy homework load and VLSS (very lazy student syndrome). One student said and I quote, “I can’t go to badminton today because I have plans” – Anonymous. Later it was found, said plans were “going home to sleep”.

The surviving members of the Badminton club are Emi, Safah, Bettina, and myself. At the beginning of the year Ayman, Raymond, Imran, Omar and Philipp were frequent participants but have since dropped out. Every Tuesday, we go with our supervising teacher to Teo Badminton center, and for a fee of RM 3.00, play for about an hour. Next year’s forecasted ‘playership’ is a grand total of two. Unless we do something about this, badminton will disappear like so many sports before it. When the quitting stops, the extinction can too.

  Tennis

We play twice a week: Wednesdays, from 8-9 PM and Fridays, from 7-8 PM at Taman Gelora's tennis courts. We pay RM 5 for each time we play. The cost includes the electricity for the lights. Mrs Anne supervises and often plays with us since we are only three people (Emi, Bettina and Safah). We usually play doubles, one of us partnering Mrs. Anne.

Although we aren't the best, we have fun playing. We used to play in the afternoon around five but we changed to evening because it was too hot. And now we can play without wearing sunscreen and hats. Ha Ha Ha!! The only disadvantage is the tiny, unpleasant bugs circling the lights at court. They are so small that once a bug flew into Mrs Anne's mouth while she was complaining about us not picking up the tennis balls.

Did we mention that we always complain about who picks up the balls? And Mrs Anne always complains about us being too lazy which we find so annoying. But overall tennis is a fun game and we enjoy playing it.
