  Students Involvement In Decision Making

The School Board of Directors believes that students, as individual members of the school community, should have opportunities to take responsibility for their own learning to participate in group decision-making as an important part of their development. Therefore students shall be encouraged, in keeping with their level of maturity, to take part in the development of school regulations that affect them.

In general, such participation is best channeled through class or school organizations, such as the School Student Council, which offer practice of self-government and serve as forum for the expression of student ideas. Being a school with small enrollment students can channel their ideas through their representatives to their teachers, Director of Studies or the Principal.

The Principal will consider students’ opinions in setting policies that directly affect their programs, activities, privileges and responsibilities. However, the authority to govern the school must remain with the School Board of Directors and with statutes and with the best interest of the school as a whole.

  Non Discrimination

No person in the school shall be discriminated against on the basis of race or ethnic origin, color, religion, sex, age, and mental or physical disability. However, this policy does not preclude any policy, program or activity that has as its aim the improvement of conditions for disadvantaged individuals or groups. The letter and spirit of applicable human rights law shall be carefully observed, enforced, and supported so that all members of school community may work together in an atmosphere of tolerance and respect for individual differences.

This policy of non-discrimination shall prevail in all matters of instruction and course selection, in providing facilities and access for handicapped, in the choice of instructional materials and the provision of career guidance and counseling, and in all matters pertaining to race and community relations.

  Governance

The ISK Board of Directors works closely with the Principal to provide general governance and establish school policy. The Board of Directors primary focus is the formulation of policy.

The management of school business is delegated to the Principal who serves as the chief executive. The Director of Studies serves as the chief instructional leader responsible directly to the Principal. Bearing in mind the small size of the school, the Principal encourages the faculty to excel in carrying out their professional duties.
