Map Growth

MAP Growth is an assessment tool developed by the Northwest Evaluation Association (NWEA) that measures students' academic progress and growth over time. The International School of Kuantan (ISK) has implemented MAP Growth as their chosen diagnostic method.

The MAP Growth assessment is based on the American education system and is specifically designed to evaluate students' abilities in language usage, reading, and mathematics. It provides ISK with valuable insights into individual student performance and growth in these areas in comparison with their peers globally.

One of the key features of MAP Growth is that it adjusts the difficulty of the questions based on the student's responses. If a student answers a question correctly, the next question will be slightly more challenging. Conversely, if a student answers incorrectly, the subsequent question will be slightly easier. This adaptive nature of the assessment ensures that each student receives questions that are tailored to their individual skill level, providing a more accurate measure of their abilities.

The data gathered from MAP Growth assessments allows our teachers to generate detailed reports on student performance. These reports provide valuable information to teachers, enabling them to identify areas where students may need additional support or intervention. Additionally, the reports help teachers and students set specific learning goals that are aligned with individual growth and skill development.

Here are some additional details about MAP Growth and its implementation at the International School of Kuantan (ISK):

  1. Assessment Frequency: MAP Growth assessments are typically administered three times throughout the academic year. ISK conducts these assessments at regular intervals to track students' growth and progress over time as a diagnostic tool.

  2. Intuitive Assessment: The assessment adjusts the difficulty level of questions based on each student's responses, it ensures that students are challenged appropriately and receive questions that are tailored to their unique abilities.

  3. Learning Goals: MAP Growth assessments enable teachers and students to set specific learning goals. Based on the assessment results, educators can identify areas where students excel and areas that require improvement. This information allows them to create targeted learning plans and set achievable goals that align with each student's needs and abilities.

  4. Data-Driven Instruction: The data generated from MAP Growth assessments provides valuable insights for teachers. They can analyze the reports to gain a comprehensive understanding of each student's strengths, weaknesses, and overall academic progress. This data-driven approach allows educators to make informed instructional decisions, adapt teaching strategies, and provide targeted support to help students succeed.

  5. Parental Involvement: Although the MAP Growth assessment scores are not included in the student report card, parents can view their child's assessment results, track progress, and gain insights into their child's academic performance. This transparency and collaboration between parents and teachers can support student learning and growth.

  6. Professional Development: ISK may provide professional development opportunities for teachers to enhance their understanding and utilization of MAP Growth assessments. Training sessions, workshops, or resources may be offered to ensure that educators are equipped with the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively implement MAP Growth and utilize the assessment data to support student achievement.
